Vol. 326 No. 8

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

182.

(Cavan-Monaghan) asked the Minister for the Environment the date on which a person (details supplied) in County Cavan applied for a home improvement grant; the date on which his Department was notified that the work had been completed; whether the work has yet been inspected; and when it is proposed to pay the grant and the amount thereof.

The information requested by the Deputy is not available, as the file is with the Department's inspector. If the inspector reports that work has been satisfactorily completed and is eligible for a grant, payment will be arranged without delay.

183.

(Cavan-Monaghan) asked the Minister for the Environment if an application has been received in his Department on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Cavan for reconstruction and sewerage grants; if he will confirm that grants have been sanctioned and that notification of completion of the work was received in his Department in July 1980; if he will explain the delay in inspecting the work and in paying the grants; and if he will now have the grants paid.

Applications for reconstruction and sewerage grants were received from the person named and grants were allocated in October 1977 and February 1979 respectively. The applicant notified my Department in September 1978 that the reconstruction work was completed, but an inspection revealed that only sufficient work to justify payment of an instalment had been carried out. In July 1980 he notified my Department that the sewerage work had been completed but he did not mention the reconstruction work. However, an inspection has confirmed that both works are now completed and the sewerage grant and the balance of the reconstruction grant will be paid soon. Any delay in dealing with the case is due to the huge number of applications being processed in my Department.

184.

(Cavan-Monaghan) asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that a new house built by a person (details supplied) in County Cavan, in which he is living, was inspected by an official of his Department over six months ago and that as yet the grant has not been paid; the reason for the delay; and if he will arrange for immediate payment.

I am not so aware. Notification that the house was completed and occupied was received in my Department on 8 September 1980, and an inspection was carried out in November 1980. Arrangements have been made for payment of the grant. Any delay in dealing with the case was due to the huge number of applications being processed in my Department.
