Vol. 327 No. 1

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

322.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that a telephone was installed almost three months ago for an applicant (details supplied) in County Dublin but that it has not yet been connected; the cause of the delay; and when the telephone will be connected.

Yes. Applicants in this area, including the person named, were told when the telephone was being installed that there would be some delay before service could be provided as cabling work had to be completed. The cabling has now been attended to and service will be provided shortly.

323.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a transfer of telephone service will be provided for an applicant (details supplied) in County Dublin.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when he will be able to provide telephone service for an applicant (details supplied) in County Dublin, in respect of King's Inn St. primary school; and if some degree of priority will be granted in view of the fact that the school has 300/400 pupils and of the danger arising in the event of an emergency.

The school has one telephone at present. One of the two additional lines applied for will be installed within the next six months or so, and the other as soon as possible thereafter.

325.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the present situation in regard to the provision of underground cable for telephone applications in the North Strand area and especially at Clonmore Villas, Dublin 3.

Cabling in this area will be undertaken as part of a major development scheme which is unlikely to be attended to for at least a year. There is only one waiting applicant in Clonmore Villas and it is expected this application will be met by the end of this year.

326.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when it is anticipated that transfer of telephone service within the same exchange area will be effected for a subscriber (details supplied) in County Dublin.

It is expected that service will be provided during the second half of this year when the necessary cable will be available.

327.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether there has been any change in the position regarding the supply of telephone service for an applicant (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if he envisages that service might now be made available.

Terms have been quoted to this applicant and service will be provided within three months of the necessary agreement being completed.

328.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when telephone service will be provided for applicants in (a) Downside Estate and (b) Northcliffe Heights Estate, Skerries, County Dublin.

Service has been provided to all applicants in Northcliffe Heights Estate. Service to applicants in Downside Estate is dependent on the provision of cabling which, because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention, is unlikely to be completed for at least a year.

329.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when applicants for telephone service in Loughshinny, County Dublin may now expect to receive service.

Service is dependent on the provision of cabling which, because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention at present, is unlikely to be completed for at least a year.

330.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in providing a telephone service for a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and when it is expected that service will be provided.

There was a shortage of equipment at Youghal exchange which switches calls for the local exchange involved and connection of applicants had to be restricted as a result. Additional switching equipment was provided recently and the waiting applications in the Youghal area are now being cleared progressively. Because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention in the area it will not be possible to provide service for this applicant for about a year.

331.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in providing a telephone service for a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and when it is expected service will be provided.

Service is dependent on the provision of additional equipment at the local exchange. This will, it is expected, be corrected in the second half of this year and applications will then be cleared progressively, but it is likely to be at least a year before the application in question will be met.

332.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when telephone service will be made available to applicants in Orlynn Park, Lusk, County Dublin.

Service is dependent on the provision of cabling which, because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention at present, is unlikely to be completed for at least a year.

333.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when telephone service will be restored to a subscriber (details supplied) in Swords, County Dublin.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a transfer of telephone service will be provided for an applicant (details supplied) in County Meath.

Service cannot be provided until additional cabling is provided to serve the area. Because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention in the district it is unlikely that this work will be carried out for at least a year.

335.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the necessary equipment to provide extensions of telephone service to prospective telephone users in Kildare town, Newbridge and Athy, County Kildare will be installed.

Kildare town: By the end of this year. Newbridge: Equipment to provide service for about 250 applicants should be available by the end of next month, and equipment to provide service for the remaining existing applicants and prospective applicants by the end of this year. Athy: There is sufficient telephone exchange capacity available to meet requirements until a new exchange is installed next year.
