Vol. 327 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

234.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he will extend free public transport to old-age pensioners and disabled people of Irish birth who are resident in the United Kingdom whenever they holiday in Ireland.

235.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he will introduce an air-fare subsidy for old-age pensioners and disabled people of Irish birth who are resident in Great Britain and who wish to holiday in Ireland.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 234 and 235 together.

I recently extended the scope of the Free Travel Scheme for those eligible by removing certain restrictions which applied at holiday week-ends. I do not propose to make any further extensions of the Free Travel Scheme at the present time.
