An ordinary house improvement grant of £600 was paid to the person named on 24 March 1981. There is no record in the Department of an application for a solid fuel grant from him.

Solid fuel grants are not available towards the replacement of an existing back boiler. As there was an existing back boiler in this applicant's house a grant cannot be allowed.

With the permission of the Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 309 and 310 together. The maximum solid fuel grant of £600 was paid on 13 February 1981. An ordinary house improvement grant has not been paid.
Two applications were received in my Department from the person named, one for a house improvement grant for the provision of a chimney and fire place and one for a solid fuel grant for the installation of a back boiler in that fire place.
Under the Housing Regulations, 1980, only one grant can be allowed for the works.
