Vol. 328 No. 8

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

243.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 2 July 1980 and has been paid from 5 July, fourth day of incapacity, at the maximum appropriate rate. All disability benefit due has been paid to 4 April 1981. He is not entitled to pay-related benefit. The delay in payment was due to the fact that he is quoting his insurance number, instead of his RSI number, on the medical certificates submitted in connection with his claim.

244.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 9 February 1981 and has been paid at the maximum appropriate rate. All disability benefit and pay-related benefit due from 12 February 1981 to 21 March 1981 after which date he resumed employment, has been paid. The delay in payment was due to the fact that a first certificate only was received from him. Inquiries were necessary to ascertain the period of his absence from work so that payment could be authorised.

245.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the continued irregular and reduced disability and pay-related payments being paid to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and when the person's appeal will be heard.

The person concerned was in receipt of disability benefit to 10 February 1981. Payment was refused after that date following his examination by a medical referee who expressed the opinion that he was capable of work. He appealed against the decision to disallow payment and, in connection with his appeal, arrangements are being made to have him again examined at an early date. When the result of the examination is received his claim will be reviewed.

246.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of disability and maternity benefits to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 23 December 1980 to 3 February 1981. As she was paid maternity allowance from 22 December 1980 to 14 March 1981 she was not entitled to payment of disability benefit on her claim. Regulations under the Social Welfare Acts preclude the payment of disability benefit and maternity allowance concurrently.
