Vol. 328 No. 9

Written Answers. - Ballincollig (Cork) School Transport.

330.

asked the Minister for Education why a child (details supplied) in County Cork will not be allowed to pay for a place on the school bus to the post-primary school at Ballincollig, County Cork, which is more convenient to his home and which he has attended since leaving primary school.

When it was decided in 1978 to provide transport for a temporary period to Ballincollig community school for pupils from the Bishopstown area, it was made clear to the parents that the arrangement would cease on the opening of the new community school in Bishopstown. It would appear that the pupil referred to in the question continued to attend Ballincollig community school. It is not open to my Department to sanction special arrangements to Ballincollig community school for this one pupil who resides only 1.5 miles from Bishopstown community school.
