I would refer the Deputy to my reply of 12 March 1981 to a question on this subject in which I stated that I had decided to authorise a Citizens Band service, to be known as "Personal Radio Service" on 27MHz, using frequency modulation (FM) with a maximum of 40 channels and with a maximum transmitter output of 4 watts, that existing 4 watt amplitude modulation (AM) equipment would be phased out over a two year transition period and that the importation and sale of this equipment would be made illegal from the commencement of the transition period. Drafting of the new licensing regulations is at an advanced stage and it is hoped to have them published shortly.
