Vol. 328 No. 16

Written Answers. - Dental Treatment for Mentally Handicapped person.

138.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that a mentally handicapped person (details supplied) in County Galway who is urgently in need of dental treatment has to wait for over a year before she can be provided with treatment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The health board received an application for dental services from the person in question on 10 December 1980 and issued her with an authorisation on 29 December 1980 to attend the private dentist she had selected. The application received by the board did not indicate that she was mentally handicapped.

No further communication has been received by the board from the person in question or on her behalf. If the health board is now contacted, arrangements will be made to provide her with treatment on a priority basis.
