Vol. 329 No. 7

Written Answers. - Air Licences.

36.

asked the Minister for Transport when it is expected that licences for scheduled flights at the new airport in Waterford will be granted; and the number of applications for licences for such services.

Three companies have lodged applications with my Department for authorisations to operate scheduled services from the new airport being provided at Waterford. One application relates to services between Waterford and Dublin and between Waterford and a number of cross-Channel points; one relates to an internal service between Waterford and Dublin and the other relates to internal services between Dublin and a number of provincial airports including Waterford. Other operators have expressed general interest in using local airports, including Waterford, as part of an integrated internal network.

Work on the construction of facilities at Waterford is continuing and is now nearing completion. Pending completion of the work to the satisfaction of my Department, the provision of the necessary support services and the licensing of the airport by my Department's aeronautical services, agreement in principle was given by my predecessor to the extension of the existing class A authorisation of one of the applicants to include provision for the operation of scheduled services on the Dublin-Waterford route on a non-exclusive basis.
