Vol. 330 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cork Airport Facilities.

462.

asked the Minister for Transport if, in view of recent publicity in relation to the extension of the runway and facilities at Cork Airport, he will confirm that the Government will commit themselves fully to the funds required to carry out this extension.

The long-term plans for Cork Airport include extensions of runway 17/35 and of the terminal building. These plans will be implemented when warranted by traffic development at the airport. It is not the practice to commit Government funds in advance for projects included in long-term plans.

I should like to point out that the adequacy of facilities at Cork Airport is kept under continuous review by Aer Rianta and my Department so that any improvements necessary to cope with traffic growth or changes in aircraft types proposing to use the airport can be introduced in good time.
