Vol. 331 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

638.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if she will expedite the payments of disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 9 May 1981 and has been paid from 13 May, fourth day of incapacity, at the maximum appropriate rate. All payment due has been made to 30 November 1981, date of latest medical certificate received.

639.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if she will arrange for the early payment of unemployment assistance to a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

The claim to unemployment assistance of the person concerned was allowed and all arrears due to him were paid on 26 November 1981. He is entitled to unemployment assistance at the weekly rate of £18.00 being the maximum rate of £20.35 less means £2.35. Weekly payments will continue as they fall due.

640.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment assistance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

Following the completion of inquiries the unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned has been allowed and arrangements have been made to pay all arrears due this week less the amount of supplementary welfare allowance due for recoupment.

The current weekly rate payable to him is £20.25 being the maximum rate of £20.35 with means assessed at £0.10 weekly.

641.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment assistance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

The claim to unemployment assistance of the person concerned was disallowed by a deciding officer for six weeks from 5 October 1981 for failing to attend an AnCO training course which failure involves statutory disallowance.

Following a review of his case at the end of this period he was again disallowed for a further six weeks from 16 November 1981 on the grounds that he is not genuinely seeking work. It is a condition of the scheme that a claimant must be available for work and be genuinely seeking work.

It is open to the person concerned to appeal against the disallowance of his claim and to have his case determined by an appeals officer. A form for this purpose may be obtained at his local office.

642.

(Wexford) asked the Minister for Social Welfare when the payment of disability pension will be resumed to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit on 29 April 1980 and has been paid from 2 May 1980, fourth day of incapacity. She has, however, been submitting medical certificates at irregular intervals and as benefit is normally only payable up to the date of the latest medical certificate received the payments made to her have also been issuing somewhat irregularly.

Payment has now been made up to 12 December 1981 and, in view of the nature and duration of her illness, arrangements have been made in her case to pay benefit weekly in future.

643.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if unemployment assistance or benefit will be paid to an applicant (details supplied) in County Mayo.

Inquiries to establish the contribution record of the person concerned were recently completed and his claim to unemployment benefit was allowed. All arrears of benefit due to him were paid on 19 November 1981.

The person's husband claimed disability benefit from 14 October 1981 and all payment due has been made from 17 October 1981, the fourth day of incapacity, to 1 December 1981.
