Vol. 331 No. 5

Written Answers. - Employment Research Projects.

652.

asked the Minister for Labour if any employment research projects are underway or are being planned by his Department.

I am continuing the practice of providing funds from the Vote for research work undertaken by independent research bodies on behalf of the Department rather than engaging directly in research work. Projects which have been commissioned and are being funded at present may be divided between those that (a) relate directly to employment and (b) those that relate indirectly to employment as follows:—

(a) Research projects directly related to employment — 1, the creation of new job opportunities for women; 2, overtime in Ireland: A case study of ten firms; 3, School-Leavers Survey, 1981.

(b) Research projects indirectly related to employment—1, A study of the implementation of the Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Act, 1977: its impact on seven Irish companies; 2, Parent's attitudes to child-care facilities; 3, The role of women in modern Irish society.

A sub-committee of the Manpower Consultative Committee oversee manpower research projects.
