Vol. 331 No. 12

Written Answers. - Walkinstown (Dublin) Area Attacks.

143.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the concern caused to parents in the Greenhills area, Walkinstown, Dublin 12, because young people are being attacked and beaten up at night-time there; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities than only two incidents of assault on young people in the area were reported to them in 1981. The incidents, which were not connected, took place in October 1981 and each involved assaults on two youths. Four persons have been convicted in respect of one of the assaults and the second incident is still under investigation.

Special crime patrols already operate in the area and the local gardaí are satisfied that the situation does not require the introduction of any additional special Garda measures but the position will be kept under review.
