Vol. 333 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Officers' Visits.

309.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of occasions that social welfare officers (details supplied) from his Department have visited Inis Meáin, Aran Islands, County Galway since June 1981; and the reason for such visits.

A social welfare officer visited Inis Meáin on two occasions since June 1981 — on 2 November 1981 and on 28 January 1982. The purpose of the visits was to deal with applications for old age pensions and unemployment assistance from persons resident on the island. The social welfare officer also made a number of inquiries mainly into the continuing entitlement of persons to old age pensions, unemployment assistance and other allowances under the Social Welfare Acts.
