My Department provided a grant of 75 per cent of the cost of harbour improvement works at Oileán na gCaorach, Bere Island, which were required in the fishery interest. The works have recently been completed.
While the additional work referred to by the Deputy is in the interest of communications the Department agreed to meet 75 per cent of the cost. However, the funds allocated in the current year for the improvement of fishery harbours are fully committed to more urgent demands with the result that it will not be possible to undertake the work at Oileán na gCaorach this year.
