Vol. 333 No. 8

Written Answers. - Connemara Industrial Development.

917.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if he will give details of industrial sites and advance factories provided in the Connemara area, County Galway; and if he will outline the proposals for industrial development in each case.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that they have provided factories at the following locations in the Connemara area of County Galway:

Clifden (a) 10,000 sq. ft., (b) 7,400 sq. ft.

Oughterard 7,700 sq. ft.

Roundstone (a) 500 sq. ft., (b) 500 sq. ft., (c) 500 sq. ft., (d) 500 sq. ft., (e) 3,300 sq. ft., (f) 3,300 sq. ft.

With the exception of two units, each of 500 sq. ft. at Roundstone, all of the factory units are occupied by industries which have the potential to employ 218 people at full production.

In addition the IDA have also acquired land at Clifden — 2 acres, Oughterard — 2 acres and Tullycross — 1.5 acres which are available for industrial development.

The Deputy is aware, of course, that additional facilities are provided in the Gaeltacht area of Connemara which is the responsibility of the Minister for the Gaeltacht.
