Vol. 333 No. 8

Written Answers. - Glengarriff Garda Strength.

999.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that the Garda station in Glengarriff, County Cork, is considerably under strength as it now has only one sergeant attached to it; and if he will take steps to provide extra gardaí for the area.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the normal Garda strength at Glengarriff Station is one sergeant and two gardaí and that an increase in that strength would not be warranted. One of the gardaí was transferred from Glengarriff on 9 April but replaced on 21 April. The other garda, who has been on temporary transfer since 4 April, is due to resume duty in Glengarriff next week.

In addition to the service provided by the local gardaí, the Glengarriff area receives attention from patrols carried out by the district patrol car based at Bantry and from the traffic corps and the divisional task force at Bandon.
