Vol. 334 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Pedestrian Crossing.

295.

asked the Minister for Justice if the Garda Síochána will recommend the provision of a pedestrian crossing on Suir Road, Inchicore, Dublin 8.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the provision of pedestrian facilities on Suir Road, Inchicore, was examined during 1981 by the Traffic Study Group who operate under the aegis of Dublin Corporation. However, a pedestrian crossing was not recommended by the group at their meeting on 10 September 1981 as the counts of pedestrians did not reach the minimum requirements. These requirements are set out in guidelines issued by An Foras Forbartha. The guidelines are adhered to by the parties concerned and, save in exceptional circumstances, the Commissioner's statutory request to the road authority to provide a traffic sign is only made when the specified requirements have been met. Such circumstances are not present in this case.
