Vol. 334 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Government Objectives.

5.

Mr. Treacy

asked the Taoiseach if he will list in order of priority the objectives of the Government both short- and long-term.

I would refer the Deputy to my speech to the Dáil on 9 March last, following my appointment as Taoiseach, to my speech on the budget on 5 May, and to the many speeches made by Ministers relating to Government policies in their areas of responsibility.

(Limerick East): Arising from the Taoiseach's reply, from reading his speeches I cannot see any reference to the position of the Irish language. Has the Taoiseach dropped that as a national objective or a Fianna Fáil priority?

As a matter of fact I shall be talking about that matter in the very near future, but I want to assure the Deputy that, in all my major general policy speeches, I advert to Fianna Fáil's continuing and unchanging objectives with regard to the Irish language.

(Limerick East): Is the Taoiseach aware that the only all-Irish school in the mid-western region, the Model School in Limerick, was burned down in 1976 and that rebuilding has not yet been recommenced? That school is directly under the Department of Education and it is a scandal that the only all-Irish school in the whole region has not been recommenced.

It is a matter for the Minister for Education.

It is not one of their priorities.

What about the Deputy's? He did not have any.

I will look into the matter.
