Vol. 334 No. 4

Written Answers. - Erne Catchment Study Report.

607.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the action being taken to implement the Erne catchment study report; and when work on the ground will commence.

The Government are committed to the implementation of the Erne catchment area study and the relevant Government Departments have been requested to act on the recommendation contained in the study as far as is possible within available resources.

The investigation into the feasibility of restoring the Ballinamore-Ballyconnell canal has already commenced. The improvement of the N3 (Cavan By-Pass) and the N16 routes is accorded priority in the Government's road development plan for the 1980's. Work is also proceeding to convert the manual telephone exchanges named in the study to automatic working by the end of 1983. Particular attention is being paid to the recommendations of the Erne Study with regard to measures to be implemented under the non quota section of the ERDF. Co-ordination will take place where necessary with the Northern Ireland authorities on the implementation of the study.
