Vol. 334 No. 5

Written Answers. - Income Tax.

589.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will have the views of a person expressed in correspondence (details supplied) in Dublin concerning his income tax situation investigated as a matter of urgency.

The certificate of tax-free allowances for 1982-83 in the sum of £69.58 weekly, which issued to the taxpayer at the commencement of the current year, was a provisional one based on the allowances available to him for 1981-82. An amended certificate for £86.16 weekly, which takes account of the increases announced in the budget, was issued direct to his employer on 10 May 1982, and when it is put into operation, any tax which has been over-deducted from his pay since 6 April 1982, will be refunded to the taxpayer by his employer.

As the taxpayer's PRSI contributions fall under class A1, he will also qualify for the extra relief of £6 per week in his tax-free allowances and a further revised certificate will be issued to him as soon as possible.
