Vol. 334 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

599.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason a farmer (details supplied) in County Cork was not paid his headage grant for 1979, 1980 and 1981; and when it will be paid.

The person named was not paid a cattle headage grant under the disadvantaged areas schemes in 1979 as he was in breach of the animal health regulations in that year. He was not eligible for a headage grant in 1980 as his off-farm income for the income tax year ended 5 April 1980 exceeded the limit of £4,175. His eligibility for a headage grant for 1981 will be determined when he submits an agreed income tax assessment for the tax year ended 5 April 1981.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason a cattle headage grant was not paid to a person (details suipplied) in County Cork for 1980 and 1981.

The person named was asked on 26 April 1982 to forward legal documents to show that he was entitled to payment of cattle headage grants in succession to his mother, the previous registered herdowner. When he does so, the question of payment will be dealt with quickly.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason a cattle headage grant was not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork for 1980 and 1981.

Cattle headage grants for 1980 and 1981 were withheld in this case pending an investigation into the intermixing of cattle belonging to the herdowner with those of another herdowner.

The investigation has now been completed and grants will be paid shortly.

602.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason a farm modernisation grant has not been paid to a farmer (details supplied) in County Cork as the work was completed over three years ago.

Application for the grant at issue was received on 9 June 1981. Farmers may qualify for grant aid at "Other High" rate for a period not exceeding six years and as this applicant had completed six years in that category, the local farm development service had to await a communication from ACOT regarding reassessment. This came to hand only recently and the application is now being processed.
