Final figures of the number of holders of higher education grants in the academic year 1981-82, and the value of the grants held, are not yet available in my Department. It is estimated, however, that the number of grant holders is approximately 6,010 (2,250 new awards in 1981 and 3,760 renewals of existing grants) and that the total value of these grants is about £7,542,000.
