Mr. De Rossa

asked the Minister for Education the estimated cost of and the projected intake by the new regional technical college to be built in the Tallaght area of Dublin.

Expenditure on the construction, furnishing and equipping of the new regional technical college to be built in the Tallaght area of Dublin is estimated at £10 million at current prices. The projected intake to first year full-time day courses is 400 students.

asked the Minister for Education if he is in a position to guarantee the orderly conduct of examinations in regional technical colleges and colleges of technology in view of the current level of discontent among the staff in these institutions regarding the proposed college structures.

asked the Minister for Education the steps he is taking to ensure a resolution of staff discontent in regional technical colleges and colleges of technology.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 709 and 710 together.

Proposals for a revision of the provision of Agreed Report 14/79 have been submitted to the Conciliation Council for Teachers and are still under consideration. I have had discussions with representatives of the Teachers' Union of Ireland and the Irish Vocational Education Association with a view to bringing about a satisfactory resolution of the present difficulties without avoidable delay.
