Written Answers. - Local Authority Officer Grade Pay.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give the top of scale salary for the local authority clerical officer grade as approved for the 2nd stage of the public service pay agreement, 1982, together with the equivalent weekly deductions from pay for superannuation and social insurance services, etc. as at mid-April 1982, as follows: (1) pay or salary (top of scale); (2) deduction for superannuation and percentage of pay; (3) deduction for widows' pension and percentage of pay; (4) deduction for social insurance and percentage of pay; (5) deduction under the Health Service Contribution Acts and percentage of pay; (6) deduction under youth employment levy and percentage of pay; (7) other statutory deductions and percentage of pay; and (8) total deductions and percentage of pay.

(1) The maximum of the salary scale for the grade of clerical officer with effect from 1 March 1982 is £8,561 (£164 p.w.).

(2) The deduction for superannuation purpose for an officer on the maximum of the scale is £8.20 p.w. which is equivalent to 5 per cent of salary.

(2) The deduction for the widows and orphans pension scheme for an officer on the maximum of the scale is £2.46 p.w. which is equivalent to 1½ per cent of salary.

(4) Total deductions for superannuation (including widows and orphans pensions), therefore, amount to £10.66 p.w. which is equivalent to 6½ per cent of salary.
