Vol. 334 No. 9

Written Answers. - Toll Roads.

100.

asked the Minister for the Environment how many applications have been received by his Department arising out of the toll roads legislation; if his Department have under active consideration at present any proposals for the provision within the State of a toll road or toll bridge facility; if he will state in relation to such proposals their location, the proposed capital value and the length of time of construction and implementation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A toll scheme made by Dublin Corporation in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government (Toll Roads) Act, 1979, was approved by me in April 1981. The scheme provides for a system of tolls in respect of the use of a proposed bridge over the River Liffey and access road linking East Wall Road with Ringsend. No other such scheme is currently before me under the provisions of the Act.

While discussions have taken place with private sector interests from time to time, and examples have been made available of projects which might form the basis for further discussion with individual road authorities, I am not in a position to comment on any proposals which may currently be the subject of discussions between a particular road authority and the private interests concerned.
