Vol. 335 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

993.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that a home improvement grant for an extension was approved about two to three years ago for a person (details supplied) in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10 and that the work on the extension has not yet commenced; and if he will now confirm that the approval for the grant is still valid and that a grant will be paid when the work has been completed.

A grant under the Department's former scheme of house improvement grants was approved on 21 May 1979 for the person named. It was a condition under that scheme, however, that all works be satisfactorily completed on or before 30 June 1981, so the approval has now lapsed. If this person wishes to be considered under the current scheme it will be necessary for her to make a fresh application. Works must not be commenced until such an application is made and an inspection carried out.

994.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the very long delay in paying a septic tank grant which was passed for payment in September 1980 to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry and in respect of which Deputy John O'Leary has made representations on numerous occasions since.

This grant will be paid shortly. The delay resulted from a filing error.

995.

asked the Minister for the Environment the position in regard to the payment of a £1,000 new house grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The file is with the inspector for investigation and report with a view to payment of a grant, if in order.

996.

asked the Minister for the Environment the position in regard to the payment of a £1,000 new house grant and mortagage subsidy to a person (details supplied) in Galway.

A grant and mortgage subsidy cannot be paid until an inspection establishes that the house has been completed satisfactorily and is occupied by the applicant. While the grant can be paid following certification of the completion and occupation of the house, payment of the first instalment of the subsidy does not arise until six months after the date of execution of the mortgage deed; the remaining five instalments will follow at six-monthly intervals.

997.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a £1,000 new house grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny as the house has been inspected and passed.

The grant will be paid shortly.

998.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange to have an early inspection carried out for a £1,000 new house grant for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny as all the work has been completed.

An inspection will be carried out as soon as possible.

999.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will have an early inspection carried out with a view to the payment of a £1,000 new house grant to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a new house grant from the person named.

(Limerick West) asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a house improvement grant has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a house improvement grant from the person named.

1001.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange to have an inspection carried out immediately of the house occupied by a person (details supplied) in County Galway in respect of reconstruction work.

An inspection, with a view to the approval of a grant, if in order, will be carried out in this case, as soon as possible.

1002.

(Donegal South West) asked the Minister for the Environment when he expects to sanction the loan application from Donegal County Council in respect of (a) Rosses regional and (b) Brinalick water supply schemes.

Tenders and loan applications for the extensions of the Rosses regional water supply scheme to Burtonport and Brinaleck have been submitted to my Department by Donegal County Council and are under consideration at present. The local authority's proposals must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for water and sewerage schemes and the number of such schemes in progress or getting to construction. I cannot say at this stage when I will be in a position to issue approval to the acceptance of tenders for the Rosses regional water supply scheme extensions to Burtonport and Brinaleck. The question of finance will not arise until approval has issued to the acceptance of tenders for the proposed extensions.
