Vol. 335 No. 1

Written Answers. - Crime and Vandalism.

1016.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the increase in crime and vandalism in the densely populated Greenhills area of County Dublin, he will arrange for extra Garda foot patrols there.

1017.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the serious increase in the rate of crime and vandalism in the Greenhills area of Walkinstown, County Dublin; and if he will take immediate steps to strengthen the Garda presence there.

1018.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the increase in crime and vandalism in the densely populated Greenhills area of County Dublin, he will provide for a Garda station to be located there.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 1016 to 1018 together.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the incidence of crime and vandalism in the Greenhills area is a matter of concern and special measures have been taken to deal with the situation through the provision of additional uniformed patrols to supplement the normal uniform and plainclothes patrols.

The Garda authorities have also informed me that, following consultation with the local Garda officers, they consider that the provision of a station in the Greenhills area would not be warranted and that the existing arrangements whereby the area is served from Crumlin Station make the best use of available police resources.
