Vol. 335 No. 1

Written Answers. - Wandering Animals.

1025.

(Dublin North-West) asked the Minister for Justice whether it is intended to introduce legislation to amend the law in relation to wandering animals.

If the question is intended to relate to civil liability for damage caused by animals, I am not in a position to make any statement at the moment about possible legislation in this area.

If it is intended to relate to prosecutions in respect of animals found wandering on the public road, these prosecutions are usually brought under the Road Traffic Act 1961 and any amendment of that legislation would be a matter primarily for the Minister for the Environment.
