I recently arranged for contacts between some semi-State companies and Northern Ireland firms with a view to examining in detail the possibilities for further trade; and have asked Ministers to ensure, in the interest of further North/South economic co-operation, that Northern Ireland firms in competing for the business of State and semi-State bodies receive the most favourable consideration possible having regard to our Community obligations and the interests of Southern firms. Offshore licensees have also been informed that, in the event of southern firms not being in a position to supply certain goods or services, Northern firms be accorded "second preference" for the purposes of section 62 of the Offshore Licensing Terms laid down by the Government.
