Vol. 335 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Overpayments.

721.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that a person (details supplied) in County Galway is being over-taxed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that, on the basis of the information now available to the inspector of taxes, the taxpayer will be exempt from income tax for the current year 1982-83, and that the small amount of tax which has been deducted from his pension since 6 April, 1982 will be refunded to him shortly.

In accordance with information recently supplied to the inspector, the taxpayer was not liable for the years 1980-81 and 1981-82. Overpayments of £154.10 and £102.93, respectively, have arisen for those years. A cheque for the 1980-81 overpayment was issued to the taxpayer on 18 May and the 1981-82 refund will be made shortly.
