Vol. 335 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cow Interest Subsidy.

762.

asked the Minister for Agriculture how the £70 interest subsidy for each extra cow added to a herd will be applied; and how it will be paid.

The general conditions applying to this interest subsidy for additional breeding animals have already been published and copies are available from local offices of my Department and of ACOT. I have arranged for a copy to be sent to the Deputy.

Briefly, the position is that the aid payable will be at the rate of £70 on each calved heifer verified, on inspection, as being present in the herd and additional to the number in the basic herd 12 months earlier. Applicants will be required to submit a certificate of borrowings in connection with the expansion of the breeding herd, as well as an estimate of additional expenses on the purchase of inputs arising out of the maintenance of the extra breeding stock. The aid will be paid direct to the herdowner.

Application forms will be available from local offices of my Department and of ACOT within the next few weeks. This will be announced in the press at the time.
