asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement on the circumstances in which a quantity of cigarettes and spirits were taken by the customs authorities at Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin, on Friday, 14 May from persons (details supplied) following their return from a day trip to Wales; and if he will now make immediate arrangements to have the goods returned to the persons concerned.
Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Customs Seizures.

One of the persons concerned was detected in an attempt to illegally import cigarettes and spirits on the occasion in question and the goods were seized. That person claimed that some of the cigarettes were the property of the second person concerned. However, the quantity of cigarettes involved exceeded the combined quantity which both persons would have been entitled to import duty-free. The Revenue Commissioners have written to the person from whom the goods were seized outlining conditions which, if accepted, will enable the goods to be released.
