Mr. Mitchell

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that a telephone of a person (details supplied) in Lucan, County Dublin, has been disconnected despite the fact that there is an on-going dispute between the subscriber and his Department regarding outstanding arrears; if he is further aware that the person in question has paid the full amount he feels is due to his Department; if he will now decide, pending the outcome of discussions between his Department and the subscriber, to have the telephone re-connected; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department were not aware that telephone service had been interrupted in this case. As a result of inquiries, it has been established that there is a fault on the line. Arrangements have been made to have the fault repaired and service restored as soon as possible.

The inquiries made in regard to the subscriber's telephone account indicate that it is correct. However, as the subscriber continues to be dissatisfied, it is proposed to carry out a comprehensive check of the line and associated equipment. This examination will be completed within the next few weeks and my Department will communicate with the subscriber then.
