Vol. 335 No. 2

Written Answers. - PRSI Contributions Refund.

757.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will furnish details of the scheme for the refund of PRSI contributions on pre-April 1982 earnings, in expansion of a reply to a parliamentary question of 13 May 1982.

The refund of PRSI contributions paid at current rates in respect of back-money arising from wage settlements relating to a period prior to 6 April 1982 will be made by employers to employees. The arrangement provides that employers will refund to the employees the difference between the amount actually deducted from the back-pay and the amount which would have been due as the employee's share under the 1981-82 rate of PRSI and the earnings limit of £8,500. The employer likewise will take credit for his share of the contribution.

The arrangement is publicised generally in an advertisement which appears in today's national newspapers. In addition all employers are being notified individually.
