Vol. 335 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Garda Stations.

270.

asked the Minister for Justice the general area covered by (a) Rathfarnham and (b) Dundrum Garda stations.

271.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of gardaí stationed in (a) Rathfarnham and (b) Dundrum Garda stations; and the plans that exist to increase the number of gardaí in each of those stations.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 270 and 271 together.

Rathfarnham Garda station serves the areas of Ballyboden, Ballycullen, Ballyroan, Cruagh, Edmondstown, Glendoo, Kilakee, Kilmashogue, Knocklyon, Rathfarnham, Scholarstown, Stackstown, Taylor's Grange, Templeogue, Tibradden and part of Churchtown and Firhouse.

Dundrum Garda station serves Ballinteer, Dundrum, Goatstown, Kilmacud, Sandyford, Ticknock, Windy Arbour and part of Churchtown.

The current strength of the Garda Síochána at Rathfarnham and Dundrum stations is 61 and 45, respectively, and I am informed by the Garda authorities that this strength is the maximum that can be provided at present having regard to overall resources and other demands on Garda services. However, a substantial number of extra gardaí are being recruited this year and the police needs of the areas served from Rathfarnham and Dundrum stations will be taken into account when the additional manpower is available for assignment to the various centres.
