The acreage needed to constitute an economic holding, giving the owner an income comparable to that available to him from alternative occupations, will vary enormously depending on such factors as changes in the determinants of both farm incomes and non-farm incomes, the levels of management and efficiency, the type of farming activity, and above all the quality of the land and the capital resources employed.
