The organisation of the Garda Síochána in Cork city and surrounding areas, including the possible need for the setting up of an additional Garda division, has been under review by a manpower deployment study team consisting of representatives from the Garda Síochána and from the operations research section of the Department of the Public Service. As soon as I have the final report on this matter, with the views of the Garda Commissioner, I will consider whether a new division is to be set up and, if so, where the headquarters should be.
