Vol. 335 No. 4

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order 1, 2, 7, 8 (resumed), 9 and 10 (resumed). Private Members' Business, from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. will be No. 19 (resumed).

(Cavan-Monaghan): I should like to ask the Tánaiste if the Government would agree to make time available for a debate on the common fisheries policy in view of the fact that, at the end of this year, the derogation in favour of Irish fishermen will come to an end. Unless there is a common fisheries policy, fishing will be permitted right into our shores. This is a very serious matter for our fishermen.

I accept this point. It is a matter which may be discussed between the Whips.

(Canan-Monaghan): The Tánaiste will appreciate that it is highly desirable that such a debate would take place before the Dáil goes into recess.

I understand the Whips will be meeting to discuss other matters next week so that can be discussed then.

Could I ask the Minister for Education if he will make a statement regarding a statement given by his officials that the inner city has now been redefined——

Deputy Mitchell, that does not arise on the Order of Business.

I intend to put down a Private Notice Question about the matter.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the question of the large influx of people expected in Tramore during the coming week-end and about the problems of keeping law and order.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

Would the Minister for the Environment state when it is proposed to bring in the necessary legislation to extend planning permission, which died on 31 October 1981, as promised already by the former Minister for the Environment, Deputy Barry. I should like to ask the Minister to indicate, because of the urgency of this matter, if he will have the necessary legislation completed before the adjournment of the Dáil for the summer recess.

I hope legislation will be brought in this session.

I would like to raise on the Adjournment the question of the takeover of St. Martha's College in Navan.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

Could the Tánaiste give some indication as to when the committee in relation to the EEC and semi-State bodies can be established. All that is required is to put a motion on the Order Paper. I am sure all parties will agree to it. As the House is aware, these committees have not been in operation for over a year and there are many matters to be discussed.

Some of them will be down on tomorrow's Order Paper and probably more next week.

There have been discussions between the Leaders of the parties on this and we are awaiting a response from the Taoiseach on one or two outstanding matters. I would ask the Tánaiste to urge the Taoiseach to come to a conclusion on these matters.

Last week I gave you notice that I would raise a question on the state of the roads in Donegal——

Do you wish to raise the matter on the Adjournment?

I want your guidance as to how I can raise it on the Adjournment when other people have also asked to raise matters on the Adjournment. People have been promised money but they have not been given any——

You can make your statement on the Adjournment. The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

Would the Minister for the Environment indicate when legislation will be introduced on rent tribunals under the Rent Restrictions Act?

It will be brought in as soon as possible, but there was a delay because of the amendment which was introduced by the Seanad which had to be sent back to the Dáil. Work is well under way in preparation of the tribunal and it will be completed as soon as possible.
