Vol. 335 No. 6

Written Answers. - Retirement Pension.

1024.

(Donegal South-West) asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry when a retirement pension and gratuity will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

The person in question has retired on ill health grounds. In such cases the regulations require the person to furnish a medical certificate indicating that he/she is no longer fit for work. The matter is then referred to the chief medical officer and the Department of the Public Service with whom the ultimate decision to sanction the retirement on ill health grounds rests. Subject to the approval of that Department being forthcoming, pension and gratuity entitlements are calculated and paid without delay.

The case referred to by the Deputy is currently with the Department of the Public Service and their decision in the matter is awaited.
