Vol. 335 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Grant Payments.

898.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of recommendations proposed at a joint meeting of the boards of management of St. Mary's girls national school and St. Mary's infant school, Windsor Avenue, Fairview, Dublin 3; and whether he intends to accede to their requests.

The chairman of the board of management has conveyed these recommendations to me. The Department are at present considering, in consultation with school management associations, the possibility of advancing the dates of payment of the grant, but it must be borne in mind that payment of the full grant is dependent upon lodgment of the local contribution in the school account.

The capitation grant incorporates the grants for the painting of schools.

Under the Rules for National Schools, school boards of management are responsible for making arrangements for the collection of such funds locally in supplement of the State grant as will ensure that the school premises will be adequately heated and cleaned and kept in a proper decorative condition.
