Vol. 335 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Sligo Schools.

902.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the need for further improved accommodation at St. Mary's College, Ballisodare, County Sligo; and if, in view of this need, he will sanction phase 2 of the building programme and provide the necessary finances to enable an early start to be made on the work.

Approval has been given for the development of St. Mary's College, Ballisodare, County Sligo, to cater for an overall student enrolment of 300. Phase I has been completed and the planning of Phase II has now commenced.

903.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the very poor condition of the pre-fabricated buildings that provide the entire accommodation of Owenbeg national school, Cullens, County Sligo, and of the urgent need for major repairs or total replacement so that the work of the school can continue in reasonable comfort for pupils and teachers; and if, in view of this serious situation and of the fact that the number on the roll, now at nearly 50, has doubled in the last three years, he will restore the grants to the school and make an emergency grant available immediately to enable work to be carried out during the summer holidays.

The long term needs of the area of Owenbeg national school, Cullens, County Sligo, are at present being considered. When this consideration is completed a decision will be taken on the question of providing grants for repair works to the school. Regular capitation grants have not been withdrawn from the school so the question of their restoration does not arise.

The average enrolments in the school for the quarters ending March 1979 and March 1982 were 28.4 and 37 respectively.
