Vol. 336 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Garda Station.

1065.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will provide a Garda station for the expanding area of Firhouse, Dublin 16, in view of the increasing crime rate there.

The Garda authorities have informed me that, following consultation with the local Garda Officers, they consider that the provision of a station in the Firhouse area would not be warranted at present.

A study team, consisting of representatives of the Garda Síochána and the Department of the Public Service, which carried out a detailed examination of how the most effective police service can be provided for all developing areas in Dublin city and county, has recommended changes in the boundaries of many of the sub-districts in the Dublin Metropolitan Area, including the Rathfarnham and Tallaght sub-districts which serve the Firhouse area. The study team's recommendations, which are aimed at improving the Garda service in the areas concerned, are under consideration at present.
