asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry whether he is aware of the considerable concern at the continuation of the water-keepers' strike; and if he will make a statement on the situation with particular reference to the speedy resolution of the problem.

I am aware of the concern about the industrial action being taken by the inland fisheries protection staff. As I indicated in my reply to a previous question on 15 June 1982 negotiations between the Central Fisheries Board and the union concerned have been taking place on a continuing basis.
The further improved offer which was made by the board to the union on 9 June 1982 and which the union had indicated they would recommend for acceptance was balloted on by members. I was advised on 21 June 1982 that this further improved offer has, unfortunately, been rejected. The course of action now open to my Department is being considered as a matter of extreme urgency.
