Vol. 337 No. 4

Written Answers. - Training Courses.

413.

asked the Minister for Finance the average number of days spent by officers of his Department on training courses each year; and if he is satisfied with the level of management and technical training in his Department.

The total number of days spent by officers of my Department on training courses during 1981 was 1,150 giving an average for the year of 2.3 man-coursedays. The figure takes into account language training courses, organised within the Department and by the Civil Service Training Centre, but does not refer to other important elements of the Department's overall training programme such as planned mobility, on-the-job training and staff development schemes.

Any average figure must be used with caution as the training requirements of individual officers can vary considerably.

I am satisfied with the present level of training in my Department but training needs will continue to be examined and programmes developed in consultation with the staff of the Civil Service Training Centre.
