Local authorities have been reviewing their contingency plans for the maintenance of essential services in blizzard or other severe weather conditions in the light of experience with the January blizzard. The guidelines which have been issued by my Department to local authorities on the subject are also being reviewed. This review is now nearing completion and any necessary further guidance will be issued to local authorities as soon as possible.
