Mr. L'Estrange

asked the Minister for Finance (a) the amount borrowed by the State in each of the past ten years; (b) the amount borrowed abroad each year; and (c) amount borrowed in Ireland each year.

The Exchequer foreign borrowing figures from 1975 onwards include sales of domestic Government securities to nonresidents. Prior to 1975 such sales were not identified separately within total gilt sales.
