asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the very serious traffic congestion that now exists in Sligo city and of the fact that Sligo Corporation has now agreed on the issue of approach roads in accordance with the advice of its technical committee and on this basis has submitted a recommendation to him, he will now make an order immediately for a new bridge across the Garavogue Estuary and make the necessary finance available so that construction will begin before the end of 1982 especially as the provision of this bridge has already been designated as a high priority.

Under the provisions of the Local Government Act, 1946, Sligo Corporation were directed to prepare and submit a preliminary report in support of their application for Bridge Order for the construction of a bridge over the Garavogue. That report was received in my Department yesterday, 12 July, and is being examined.
