asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that consultants who were due to take up appointment at Roscommon County Hospital on 1 July are unable to carry out their duties owing to the failure to provide the necessary back-up staff; and if he will ensure that the necessary finance for that purpose will be made available immediately.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 281 and 282 together.
I am aware of the position which has arisen in relation to the appointment of support staff for newly appointed consultants at Roscommon County Hospital.
The problem is being considered in the context of the additional costs involved and the restriction on the creation of additional posts in the public service.
