asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the need for additional community and sporting facilities in the Tallaght area of County Dublin, he will ensure that the major grant allocated by his Department is still available for that area.

Under the national programme for the provision of recreational facilities a grant of £166,000 was allocated in 1980 to Dublin County Council by my Department towards the cost of providing a sports centre in the Tallaght area.
In March, 1982, my predecessor as Minister of State directed that a number of grants allocated in 1980 under the national programme — and which had not been availed of — should be withdrawn, including the grant for the proposed sports centre in the Tallaght area.
On my instructions arrangements are under way in my Department to review this decision and until this review has been completed I am not in a position to make a statement regarding the grant in this case.
However, the Deputy may rest assured that I am very much aware of the needs of the Tallaght area.
